5/12/2026 VVECA Membership Meeting ● Todd: Virginia Park new developers bought it in 2026. Previous owners owned it for 40 years. New owners own Oneida Park. They want to bring in local businesses that are affordable. Local butcher, Tias, Yoga Box, Recess Beer Garden, Copper Door Coffee, Off the Bottle is no packaging. Signed a lease with electric cars to have 10 charging spots. ○ Making a courtyard in front of the Tia’s all the way down to Detour for a kid playplace. Hopefully open September/October ○ VillageParkDenver.com ○ Most businesses are staying and have long leases ○ A lot of walkways and redoing the parking lot ○ Coffee shop will also be serving ice cream
● Neal: Running for House District 9
● Matt running for CIty Council District 6
● Joel running for City Council District 6
● Cook Park Food Truck monthly, Schedule at Cook Park Rec Center. running for the summer.
Paul Kashmann ● Thursday the city council is meeting around the budget ○ 200 million budget shortfall this past year ○ All of our agencies are underfunded ○ Sales tax revenue is down ○ The peoples budget is made up by community, VV is getting 1 million of that so give ideas ■ denvergov.org search peoples budget ● Data Centers in Denver use a lot of resources, water and power: Kashmann put forth a one year moratorium on them so we can do our research. ● Surveillance cameras: Flock had the contract in Denver, was being used by ICE, watching when women are getting reproductive health care, Denver cancelled the contract. Passed Axon instead with 50 cameras and will keep the information local in theory ● Accessory Dwelling Units became allowed a couple of years ago. VV does not have alleys so the dwelling is too close to your neighbor. We spent 2 years on how to integrate ADU’s and it is going to be 15 feet from your neighbor but getting pushback. A new governor might help us out more than Polis. ● Water restrictions: please be on top of that and do not use too much water. ● Bus Rapid Transit on Colfax is in the center lane. After Colfax, it will be Federal and then Colorado Blvd and then Speer, Leetsdale/Parker Road. But there is no money from anywhere for future projects including Federal and Colorado Blvd. ● RNO’s have been on their own since 1979 without any funding. Kashmann has been having conversations about how to improve them. In the next month, we will put out report of what the feedback has been from the Denver community.
○ Google your city your voice denver and find the current report ● Question about sidewalk project and what the timeline looks like CAVVE ● Started out because of the fear of ICE in Minneapolis and now trying to understand what community needs ○ Need help with the Ellis walking bus: help get kids to school because attendance became low so we are helping out with that. ○ LOVVE project could use help ■ Two Saturdays a month we do a food bank during the summer at the Celebration of LIfe Church ■ Community Fridge program to supply the food to folks who need it is in the works ■ There are two community gardens at Ellis. One for community and one for Ellis families
● Housing in Homes housing project: to help pay for someone who is willing to rent their basement out for an affordable option ○ It could be a win win for everyone ○ Go to the peoples budget and vote for my project ○ There is over a 1,000 projects to vote on so please vote for mine
● VVECA is looking for someone in the neighborhood to help with the website which would be paid at like $25/hr ● Open conversation about collaboration with Cook Park RNO
● Postponing June 19th picnic. Maybe in August but not August 20th bc LOVVE project has their big community day that day, perhaps a movie night, to be continued….
